From the Editor's Desk,

Prof. Dr. Madhusudan S Astekar, MDS, (Ph.D.),

Editor-in-Chief,

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

Welcome to the second issue (2011) of International journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology! This journal is an open access, online journal encompassing all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial pathology, including diagnostic, prognostic & therapy related pathology, molecular biology techniques, morphometry & electronic education. We also welcome articles from related fields in dentistry, medicine and biology.

Open access publication is a specific form of electronic information transfer, based upon the internet and offers a non-commercial, access to read all included articles. The advantages of open access publication include fast and world-wide spread of the published articles, no costs for the readers, control of access to specific articles, followed by article ranking and evaluation of scientific interest of the readers. Obviously, it is in general, difficult to be implemented by non-electronic media worldwide.

A milestone in the journal's progress was the inclusion into the citation index with Copernicus, OpenJgate, Ulrich Web and Google Scholar. We have still to work on increasing the citation index with various indexing bodies, because it is the major justification for receiving money for publication. However, our limitation is that we still want to assist colleagues from our own fraternity, and to encourage them in publication in our journal.

Since the beginning of this journal, the regular maintenance in the form of financial commitment has been managed solely by the Publisher, Celesta Software Pvt. Ltd. To further enable the journal and make all of its content open access, IJOMP will levy an article-processing charge for each manuscript before peer review in order to prevent any further delay in the publication process.

I can only encourage my friends & colleagues to carefully weigh the scientific and financial arguments and to submit articles to IJOMP as a new open access journal. We will certainly do our best to ensure that both sides, authors and the research community, will benefit from this new and exciting scientific venture.
